Michael Thomas has had his fair share of good and bad moments during his eight-year NFL career. He won Offensive Player of the Year honors following his standout performance in 2019, but also faced a series of injuries.
A foot injury forced him to finish the 2022 season on injured reserve, and he played in only 10 games last season due to injury. Thomas signed a one-year, $10 million restructuring contract extension with the New Orleans Saints in 2023. On Thursday, Times-Picayune columnist Jeff Duncan reported that the Saints plan to release the veteran wide receiver when the NFL opens next week. Year.
Thomas disputed the report and took issue with the nature of his pending release on social media. Thomas attacked Duncan in a series of inflammatory posts on Company X, formerly known as Twitter, suggesting that their upcoming separation was simply a result of their contract expiring.

In one of his posts, Thomas wrote, “If I was on a one year contract how were they going to release me?”
Thomas also accused Duncan of trying to “ruin the value of players.”

“The Saints are leaking information to him and trying to undermine the player’s value, but I can talk about it because I know I’m not broke,” Thomas said.
The Saints did not comment when asked by Fox News Digital about Thomas’ post.
According to Over the Cap, Thomas’ contract was structured to give the Saints flexibility. By releasing Thomas, New Orleans will likely save just over $1 million against the team’s 2024 salary cap.

The Saints selected Thomas in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He finished his rookie season with 1,137 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
Thomas became one of the league’s most reliable possession receivers, finishing each of his first four seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards.

Thomas’ last four years have been especially plagued by injuries, with the wideout playing in 20 games over the past four seasons.
