Exclusive–GOP Reps Expect Biden to Engage in Border ‘Blamefest’ at SOTU

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Joe Biden will use his State of the Union address to place more blame on Republicans, especially on border issues, rather than accept responsibility for his own shortcomings, Republican lawmakers told Breitbart News. He says he plans to do so.

Breitbart News spoke to several Republican lawmakers Thursday morning and afternoon on House Republican Media Row ahead of Biden’s big speech.

Rep. Michael Walz (R-Florida) said the speech “is going to be a huge blame-shifting Congress,” pointing to the Senate’s dead pro-immigration border bill, particularly on Ukraine.

Rep. Michael Walz (R-Fla.) on Thursday’s “Fox & Friends” discussed a recent Fox News op-ed that pointed to China’s mass infiltration of American universities and theft of American research.

“He’s going to shift the blame to the border because of the policies coming out of the Senate that are more focused on immigration reform than border security,” Walz said.He is trying to shift the blame to Ukraine, even though deterrence has failed and energy policy, or lack thereof, is actually fueling Putin’s war. But still, he wants a story like this, where we continue to sign blank checks for billions of dollars to feed him into a strategy that has now become attrition and new endless wars. If we don’t, we somehow become pro-Russian.” That’s ridiculous, but that’s the story. And going back to the border, we’ve been very clear about allowing him to go after cartels. That’s really all there is to it. They are doing human trafficking. They’re trafficking fentanyl. They literally took control of a third of Mexico. It is completely unsustainable and unacceptable. And of course, what I really want to hear about is the economy. Is he really going to deploy a tax increase strategy in the midst of an economy that is in decline, went into recession last year, and is probably still reeling from out-of-control inflation?”

Rep. Greg Steub (R-Florida) predicted that Biden would try to blame Republicans on the southern border, even though he has the authority to enact executive actions to impede the flow of migrants.

“Especially on the border, he will try to blame Republicans for not sending us the ‘funds’ needed to close the border,” Steube said. “He just wants more money to process more illegal aliens coming into our country. What’s amazing about this story is that with the stroke of a pen, he’s at the border today. That means he was able to change what was happening from the White House. The moment he was elected, he moved away from Trump-era policies like the Remain in Mexico policy and some amnesty policies that completely curbed what was happening at the border. And he’ll try to blame Republicans for that if he can. He doesn’t need Congressional action to do that, but he’ll probably try to adopt a bill that comes from the Senate. “This bill would still allow 5,000 illegal aliens a day to come into our country as campaign material, and as Republicans we’re going to do that.”I hold all of this. Masu. ”

Steube’s comments came days after former President Donald Trump called on Biden to enact Trump-era policies through executive orders to secure the border.

Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-South Dakota) told Breitbart News that “the best thing Joe Biden can do tonight is take responsibility for the southern border,” but Johnson said he doesn’t think Biden will do anything. I admit that there is no.

“It would be a great act of leadership. It would break the internet. It would break the news cycle. It would break the border crisis,” Johnson said. “He’s not going to do that. Instead, he’s going to play the blame game and talk a lot about ‘shrinkflation.’ And listen, I think the number of Cheez-Its in a snack bag is interesting to Americans, but it’s not as important as the fact that 8 million people entered this country illegally through the southern border. there is no. For the past 3 years. Joe Biden deserves accountability. I highly doubt he will. ”

Johnson’s guest at this year’s State of the Union address was Butte County Sheriff Fred Lanphier, who emphasized that South Dakotans are feeling the effects of a porous southern border.

“We have made traffic stops within the county and stopped people who were on deportation lists. We have enough to intervene and take these people into custody and turn them over to federal authorities.” There is no federal authority to assist in detaining someone for a period of time,” he explained. “We have received recommendations to release them. We advise that they need to be reported to the federal court, but that is not done. If there is no process to take them to the next level, we cannot detain them. By doing so, you run the risk of litigation.”

“We have felt the effects of the fentanyl crisis. Hundreds of people have lost their lives to fentanyl overdoses in our county and state,” Lampere added.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), asked on Thursday whether Biden intended to blame his administration for its shortcomings or take responsibility, said Thursday that Biden has some “personal energy.” He told Breitbart News that he would try to show that.

“Joe Biden wants to create some common connections with Americans. In fact, what Joe Biden has in common with most Americans is that everyone is worse off than they were four years ago. That’s it,” Gates said. “The American people, this country economically, in terms of honor in the world, and Joe Biden are in decline in almost every sense. So he’s trying to show some personal vitality. But he seems to have lost his fastball a little bit.”

Rep. Austin Scott predicts Biden’s State of the Union address will be a “blame fest.”

“He’s not going to take responsibility for anything. It’s going to be a blame fest,” Scott said. “I think the best example of this is immigration. He delivered on a campaign promise he made when he took office to block policies put in place to reduce the flow of illegal immigration. He did what he said he would do. All he has to do is reverse what he has done to stop the flow of illegal immigration into the country.”

“The president is 100% willing to blame the Republicans for not passing additional legislation that wasn’t necessary for border security,” he added.
