On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Biden campaign co-chairman Sen. Chris Coons (D-Delaware) challenged President Joe Biden to criticize 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. He said he “does not encourage” debates with the former president. If you want to see Joe Biden in prime time, you should tune in tonight. “The American people need to make their own decisions based on what changes Joe Biden has made in their lives.”
Host Jake Tapper said, “Former President Trump says he wants to debate Joe Biden anytime, anywhere. Is that a good idea? If so, what if this meant comparing me to the Almighty instead of comparing me to the Almighty? Don’t you think President Biden should compare it to an alternative campaign?”
Mr. Koons interjected. “Well, if Donald Trump wants to see Joe Biden in prime time, he should tune in tonight. I was at the debate in Cleveland, moderated by Chris Wallace, and It was a chaotic atmosphere, to say the least. Donald Trump broke every rule and regulation of decorum and decorum, or just followed the host’s instructions. I’m not encouraging that, but neither was his campaign. I don’t think the president has made a decision yet either. Frankly, I think the American people need to make their own decisions based on what changes Joe Biden has made in their lives. .”
Tapper then asked, “Are you saying President Biden shouldn’t discuss former President Trump?”
“I think it’s up to him. I think he and his campaign will make a decision later this year,” Koons responded.
