When you enter the House chamber, you are first struck by how small it is.

The room where the president delivers the State of the Union address looks cavernous on TV, but when you actually stand in it, you realize it’s not much larger than a high school gymnasium with a balcony.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of that fact Thursday night as I watched President Joe Biden.

Biden attacks ‘predecessor’ Trump, Republican in partisan speech

He rushed through his speech as if reading a bedtime story. He would speak over lines of applause, or pause only to catch his breath between snappy lines meant to drum up the bass.

“Predecessor”, this.

“Predecessor”, that is.

Is this a State of the Union or a campaign speech?

But most of all, Thursday night’s speech showed just how small and weak Joe Biden is — though not necessarily what you think.

We all know he’s starting to show his age.

We are a nation in crisis. border. economy. debt. These are not quick fixes. What we heard from the president Thursday night was inadequate.

Take a look back at the 2012 debate with Republican vice presidential candidate and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to see for yourself, or watch the video of him chasing kids with a water gun during a barbecue in the vice president’s backyard. I want you to see it being talked about.

Biden criticizes Trump multiple times in State of the Union address

He clearly missed a step. No one with two eyes and an intellectually honest mind can deny that.

That’s why 86 percent of respondents think he’s too old to serve, according to ABC News.

86%!

In today’s day and age, it’s impossible for 86% of people to come together and say, “The sky is blue.” Yet they say without hesitation that he is too old. That comes through.

There is a weakness there. It will be clearly visible Thursday night. Just as we saw when he held an impromptu press conference after the release of the Hull report.

However, his policies also have weaknesses and smallness. That is equally concerning.

We are a nation in crisis. border. economy. debt.

These are not quick fixes.

What we heard from the president Thursday night was inadequate.

He claims that the immigration problem cannot be solved. He says major legislation is powerless unless it is passed by a narrowly controlled Congress.

Ignore the fact that he was the one who rescinded executive orders that halted the flow of immigrants, including the Remain in Mexico policy and the national emergency that made it possible to fund the construction of the wall.

When it comes to inflation, he chases a small bag of crisps. He is seemingly oblivious to the fact that it is because of his reckless spending that it becomes more expensive to buy everything from everyday groceries to a new home.

This smallness and weakness extends not only to what he is, but also to what he represents.

please think about it. What is the innovative new policy solution he introduced Thursday night? Something we’ve never heard before?

I can’t think of any.

Protect Obamacare? Old news.

Codify abortion rights? There’s nothing new there either.

Pay your “fair share”? That line is older than me.

It was the same tired policy by a president with no ideas or time.

Joe Biden has neither the energy nor the ideas to respond to this moment. His entire presidency is based on a sense of helplessness. He does not shape events as the leader of the free world should. When the country turns to him for answers, it only gets half-baked solutions and tired ideas.

The situation is dangerous heading into the general election. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t do anything about his age and the toll it’s taking on him. But Thursday night, he actually had a chance to be bigger and bolder than he was. Rather, he was weak and small, living and embodying the policies he proposed.

Joe Biden finished his speech and slowly left the House chamber. When he turned off the television, he thought the same thing he did when he first entered that room over a decade ago.

“Is this it?”
