Democrats fume over the word Biden used to describe Laken Riley murder suspect — but notice what they’re not mad about

Democrats are outraged that President Joe Biden referred to Laken Riley’s murder suspect as an “illegal alien.”

During Thursday night’s State of the Union address, Biden acknowledged Riley after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) denounced him. However, Biden cut out Riley’s name and instead referred to him as “Lincoln Riley,” the name of the head football coach at the University of Southern California.

“Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman killed by an illegal alien, that’s right,” Biden said.

The Democratic word police were furious when the president used the word “illegal” to refer to Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan immigrant who is in the United States illegally and is charged with Riley’s murder.

  • “As a proud immigrant, I am deeply disappointed to hear President Biden use the word ‘illegal,'” said Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-Ill.). Said.
  • “Let me be clear: Humans are not illegal,” said Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota). signal of virtue.
  • Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas): “The rhetoric President Biden used tonight was dangerously close to Donald Trump’s rhetoric about targeting the backs of Latinos around the world.” complained.
  • “I’m disappointed tonight that the president would use such dehumanizing right-wing rhetoric to talk about immigrants. No one is illegal,” said Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.). reacted.
  • “He should have said ‘undocumented,'” said Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. cracked down.

But notice how these Democrats aren’t budging. That’s Biden trashing Riley’s name. That’s the real sin in this story, and the question arises: Does Biden know Riley’s real name?

It is important to emphasize the fact that it is “illegal” Most frequently used adjectives in US law Refers to immigrants who entered the United States illegally and live here without legal permission.

Furthermore, the adjective “illegal” establishes an important distinction between immigrants who come to the United States illegally and those who have undergone extensive legal processes.

Charles Cook, immigrant and senior editor of National Review; explained:

I am also a proud immigrant. There’s nothing wrong with using “illegal” to describe people who have immigrated here in violation of our laws from those who have not. This is the same as law-abiding people complaining about the existence of the word “criminal.”

The goal of those who want to stop the use of the term “illegal immigrant” is to make it difficult for people to discuss realities that make them uncomfortable. They oppose the law in question and think they can kill it by changing the language we use to discuss it.

If Democrats truly resent the adjective “illegal,” they should use their legislative power to change existing legal descriptions of illegal immigration.

Until then, their virtue signals ring hollow.
