Five killed in Gaza by aid airdrop gone wrong

At least five people were killed and several others injured after an aid airlift failed in Gaza on Friday, according to multiple reports.

On Friday, the Associated Press reported, citing Palestinian officials, that the airdrops malfunctioned, hitting people and landing in homes.

The report was released after the United States and several other countries pledged to step up efforts to bring more desperately needed aid to Gaza.

Last Friday, President Biden announced that the United States would airdrop humanitarian aid in the coming days amid negotiations for a temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. The first U.S. rollout took place on Saturday, delivering 38,000 meals.

Biden said aid pouring into war-torn Gaza “is far from enough right now,” and said more food, medicine, water and other supplies would soon be sent to civilians.

Still, many argue that the United States and its allies are trying to send aid, but it is not enough to meet the needs of the Palestinians. The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry has reported that more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began on October 7.

Biden said in Thursday’s State of the Union address that the U.S. military would build a temporary port to better transport aid.

Aid efforts have increased since Israeli forces opened fire on people scrambling for humanitarian supplies, killing more than 100 civilians.

According to CNNJournalists witnessed aid supplies falling from a plane over Al Shati camp on Friday, but it is unclear which country is behind the airlift as several countries are working with the US to deliver the supplies. could not be confirmed.

Mohammed al-Sheikh, director of emergency treatment at the al-Shifa medical complex in Gaza City, said in response to the report that five people were killed and several others are in critical condition due to a malfunction caused by an airdrop. Admitted.

Gaza’s health ministry and witnesses said five people died after the aid package’s parachutes failed to deploy properly. Two of the five people killed were boys, CBS News report.
