Journalists reporting from al-Shati camp west of Gaza City said at least five people were killed and 10 more injured when airdropped aid fell on Friday.

Some reports say all five victims were Palestinian children under the age of 18, while others say the victims were adults.

Reporter Qader al-Zaanun said he witnessed relief supplies being dropped from jets over Al-Shati refugee camp.

Five people reportedly died in the incident, said Muhammad al-Sheikh, head of emergency treatment at Gaza City’s al-Shifa medical complex.

Additionally, Al Sheikh said that many people injured in the incident were taken to Al Shifa Medical Complex and are currently in critical condition.

Video of the event shows free-falling bags breaking apart in a shower of debris as aid falls. A bag was then heard and seen hitting the ground with a loud bang.

The pallet was still descending at a “potentially lethal speed” and it could have been difficult for anyone to move out of the way in time as it fell.

The United States and other countries continue to air humanitarian aid into Gaza, as the United Nations (UN) warned authorities that hundreds of thousands of people in the besieged enclave were “on the brink of starvation.” We have responded by dropping them.

Abdel Kader al-Sabbar, a journalist based in Gaza, said: “If you can even get these meals, you’re lucky… People are always fighting over it, so I look for these aid parcels.” I don’t even feel like going there.”

However, according to a U.S. State Department official interviewed, ABC Newsthese were not airdropped packages from the US.

“Reports that the U.S. air drop resulted in casualties among civilians on the ground are false,” Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a press conference. Because he did.”
