President Biden’s fiery State of the Union address Thursday received mixed reviews as he criticized Republicans on abortion, aid to Ukraine and border issues. Without naming him, Biden targeted former President Trump, his likely rival in the 2024 election, igniting a general White House race, all of which will be the focus of this week’s Sunday show. It is highly likely that
A reinvigorated Biden referenced the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and the threat President Trump poses to American democracy. The 2024 general election season is starting to heat up, with two 2020 presidential candidates heading off for a rematch.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who attended the annual address as well as nearly the entire Biden Cabinet, is scheduled to appear on both ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday.”
After the speech, he fired back at House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who criticized Biden’s speech as “bipartisan” and “bitter.” Buttigieg said Johnson’s criticism of the bipartisan bill passed by Biden was “literally false.”
Biden, 81, spoke for more than an hour before a joint session of Congress on Thursday, displaying energy, often shouting, to the surprise of many. Fox News host Sean Hannity, who once called Trump “Sleepy Joe,” says Trump was “over-caffeinated” and now should be called “Jack Up Joe.” Told.
Biden addressed a deeply divided Congress. The Senate on Friday passed a $460 billion package of six spending bills, averting a partial government shutdown. Even after the bill passed the House, it faced staunch opposition from conservatives.
Another divisive issue is the stalled border bill. After the bipartisan Senate border deal was defeated, Biden used his speech to directly criticize Republicans who opposed the deal on President Trump’s behalf.
When Republicans loudly objected, Biden said, “Let’s look at the facts. I know you know how to read.”
Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) was one of three senators who drafted the failed bipartisan border agreement. It includes $20 billion for border security, gives the federal government temporary power to expel immigrants if daily border crossings exceed certain thresholds, and allows authorities to process asylum claims faster. It was planned to include features such as making it possible to process
Biden mentioned a border deal, but Lankford seen “That’s true,” I said, nodding my head. He is scheduled to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
Other Biden supporters are also scheduled to appear on this week’s show, where they will talk about his accomplishments and his approach to the upcoming general election. Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.), along with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.), appeared on CBS’ “Face the… Appearing on “Nation”.
Following the speech, Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) delivered the Republican response. She received heavy criticism online for her melodramatic and unusual rebuttal. Britt will appear on “Fox News Sunday.”
Biden’s speech was expected to be a pivotal moment in the campaign, as polls this fall show him increasingly likely to face Trump. Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley suspended his campaign on Wednesday following a landslide defeat in the Super Tuesday elections across the United States.
Sen. Tim Scott (RS.C.), who put his candidacy on hold in the Republican primary and supported Mr. Trump, will appear on FOX News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” President Trump confirmed that Scott is on his short list of running mates.
