experimental holocaust drama zone of interest” won the Oscar for Best International Feature, and its director Jonathan Glazer used the moment to condemn Israeli aggression in Gaza.
Director Glazer elaborated on the film’s themes, saying that the film aims to reflect the ongoing dehumanization of Israel and Gaza, including in Israel.
“All our choices have been made to reflect and confront who we are now. It’s not about looking at what they did then, but rather what we’re doing now. Look at it,” he said. Our film shows where dehumanization reaches its worst. It has shaped all of our past and present. ”
