Trump highlights praise from Orbán after Biden criticizes meeting

Former President Trump highlighted praise from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in a social media post Sunday night, shortly after President Biden criticized Trump for hosting a dictator at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump is the only Republican candidate running for president in 2024. promotion Video from Hungarian dictator and Orbán reposting praise He was described as a “president of peace.”

“He earned the respect of the world and created conditions for peace. During his presidency there was peace in the Middle East and Ukraine. We need his return more than ever!” Mr. Orbán posted on social media that Mr. Trump amplified.

Trump’s post came after he faced harsh criticism from Biden, Trump’s likely Democratic challenger in the 2024 general election.

Biden, who has made the fight for democracy a centerpiece of his 2024 election campaign, criticized President Trump for inviting the Hungarian prime minister and his daughter to the former president’s Florida mansion.

“Do you know who he’s meeting at Mar-a-Lago today?” Biden said at a campaign event in Pennsylvania this weekend. “Hungary’s Mr. Orbán has made it clear that he does not believe democracy can work and that he wants a dictatorship.”

Biden added that world leaders told him Trump “cannot win again because my democracy is at stake.” Biden also claimed that nine heads of state last month emphasized the importance of November’s victory.

As Mr. Biden left the White House for Philadelphia, he was asked if he was concerned about Mr. Trump meeting with Mr. Orban.

“If I don’t, you should too,” the president said.

On Saturday, President Trump said on Truth Social that he was honored to welcome Orbán to his home.

“Victor is a great leader and respected around the world,” he said. I have written. “Hungary is a safe country thanks to his strong immigration policy, and as long as he is in charge it will always be a safe country!”

Mr. Orbán has become a popular figure among some on the American right in recent years. He has given keynote speeches at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) events, including one in Budapest, Hungary, last year.
