The Israeli government said Sunday night that Oscar-winning director Jonathan Glazer and his fellow filmmakers “refute the use of their Jewishness and the Holocaust to justify the occupation.” criticized the comment.
As reported by Breitbart News, Glazer gave an inflammatory speech while accepting the Oscar for Best International Feature Film for the Holocaust drama “Zone of Interest.”
Israeli government spokeswoman Ilana Stein said she was “deeply shocked by this comment.”
She continued: “It is despicable to think that we are exploiting the Holocaust. We are not ‘using’ anything. Hamas showed us how they massacred us. And this is what we are fighting against – a genocide, a terrorist organization that says it wants “from the river to the sea” and that it wants to liberate Jews from all of Israel. It means there is.
“Does that remind you of anyone?” she asked rhetorically.
She said it was Hamas’ actions that evoked the Holocaust, not Israel’s self-defense.
