School Resource Deputy Reassigned After Incident with Student
The Riverside Sheriff’s Office has reassigned a school resource deputy following a physical encounter with a female student outside Vista del Lago High School in Moreno Valley, California.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:47 p.m. on Tuesday when the officer was called to manage a fight between students. Eyewitness accounts describe the officer slamming the girl to the ground during the arrest.
A social media influencer, who wishes to remain anonymous, captured the event on video and shared it online. He noted that while the girl appeared to be resisting handcuffs, the deputy’s actions seemed excessive.
The influencer mentioned, “She was on the ground, and sure enough, she got wild, and he was just moving her around like a rag doll.” While he asserted that the girl was 14 years old, this has not been verified.
According to police, the student tried to pull away during the arrest. The deputy instructed her to stop and put her hands behind her back, emphasizing the need for compliance.
Paramedics later evaluated the student, who was ultimately arrested on charges of assault and resisting arrest. The Moreno Valley Unified School District has expressed its support for the girl’s family in a statement.
Reactions online were mixed, with many users defending the deputy’s actions. One person commented, “Thank you, police officers, for your service. These violent citizens need to learn about law and order!” Another user remarked on the inevitability of consequences for resisting arrest.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Office has stated that they treat all use-of-force incidents very seriously and are committed to ensuring that such situations are handled as peacefully as possible. They will conduct a review to ensure that their policies and training standards were followed during the event.
