A newly released transcript of secret testimony before the committee on Jan. 6 shows that one witness said then-President Donald Trump never fought with Secret Service agents and actually called the military to protect the Capitol. This shows that he testified that he requested it.
Transcript of a private interview between Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato and then-Congressman. Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyo.) testimony on January 28, 2022, was suppressed by the committee because she flaunted sensational claims that her testimony had been rebutted.
In particular, Cheney stepped up her accusations against former President Trump aide Cassidy Hutchinson. Mr. Hutchinson received extensive media attention after publicly claiming that President Trump had tried to commandeer the presidential vehicle to take him to the Capitol riot.
As Breitbart News and others noted during Hutchinson’s dramatic testimony in June 2022, several people, including Ornato, were prepared to testify publicly to refute her claims ( This claim has also been debunked in other ways.)
But Cheney and other committee members did not accept Ornato’s offer, leaving behind an inconvenient witness that committee member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) used during the first impeachment inquiry. I repeated that tactic.
Additionally, Cheney and the committee argued in their final report that there is no evidence that President Trump called for 10,000 National Guard troops to secure the Capitol. In fact, Ornato testified that he heard Trump do just that.
molly hemingway the federalist report The existence of the Ornato Documents unearthed by the House Executive Oversight Subcommittee led by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.). Hemingway reported:
Former Rep. Liz Cheney’s Jan. 6 committee suppressed evidence that President Donald Trump pushed for the deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the nation’s capital, according to a previously obtained cover-up by The Federalist. The records have been revealed.
Cheney and her committee falsely claimed that there was “no evidence” to support Trump officials’ claims that the White House had communicated a request to deploy 10,000 National Guard troops. Indeed, the transcripts of early interviews conducted by the committee accurately contained evidence from key sources. The press conference, which Mr. Cheney personally attended and also participated in, had been hidden from public view until now.
…
Asked if he had heard anything about President Trump’s decision to go to the Capitol that day, Ornato said he had not. Ornato said Trump had driven past one previous rally and flown over another rally, and that leaders had decided in advance that Trump would not participate in that day’s events. Ta.
Mr. Loudermilk was also unfairly targeted by the Jan. 6 Commission for falsely accusing him of guiding rioters at the Capitol before the event, but withheld much of the evidence collected by the Commission. I discovered this earlier.
They did so despite being directed by then-elect House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (D-Calif.) to preserve all evidence they collected in late 2022.
Ironically, President Trump still faces federal charges for mishandling government documents.
