A Panoma Park, Florida, sex offender who was released from prison on New Year’s Eve for sexually assaulting a preteen has been arrested again, this time for allegedly raping a woman in February.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that 31-year-old Kendrick Marklain was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a person 18 years of age or older.
According to the sheriff’s office, Marklein completed his sentence for sexual assault of a child under 12 and was released on December 31, 2023.
He registered as a sex offender with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on January 8, 2024, but less than a month later, he allegedly raped a woman.

On February 3, the woman got into an argument with a family member while intoxicated and told police that she had been drinking. After her argument, the woman left the scene and the stranger began following her, police said.
According to the sheriff’s office, the woman called her mother at around 10:12 p.m., but the call went unanswered. However, the man continued to follow her until she reached a Dollar General store, where he asked her for a cigarette.
The woman said the two men shared a cigarette and when she tried to leave, the man grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head against the wall.

His father drove around looking for him, saw him and fled to his car.

“This individual had multiple opportunities for rehabilitation and chose not to,” said Sheriff HD Gator DeLoach. “He has failed to comply with the sexual offender designation and has returned to prison numerous times. Clearly this is a person who is unable to function in society and now members of our community are suffering at his hands. He has suffered a terrible and unforgivable trauma.
