Star Wars Child actor Jake Lloyd played Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 film. Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom MenaceHe reportedly suffered from mental illness and was admitted to a mental health facility.
Lloyd had a psychotic break in March 2023 while being driven home by his mother, Lisa Lloyd, on his way to buy food at McDonald’s, and subsequently entered an inpatient program, where he has been for the past 10 months. He is admitted to a mental health facility.
“He said he wanted to turn off the car engine. And he turned off the car in the middle of three lanes and we were in the middle lane,” Lisa Said Scripps News on Monday. “There was a lot of screaming and yelling.”
The actor’s mother added that the whole ordeal caused a traffic jam and nearby drivers called 911.
“The police arrived and asked Jake a few questions,” Lisa recalls. “He was talking to them, but none of it made any sense. It was all word salad.”
Lloyd reportedly became mentally ill after visiting McDonald’s and was hospitalized. Two months later, he entered a rehabilitation facility where he remained hospitalized for 18 months.
“He’s doing much better than I expected,” his mother said. “He’s getting along better with people and being a little bit more social, which is really great.”
The child actor was reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2008 at the age of 19.
Lisa told Scripps News that she first noticed that her son “had some issues” when he was in high school, and that his condition worsened after he entered college.
“He didn’t say he was hearing voices at the time. But he was,” she said. “When they finally told him, [he was schizophrenic], which completely sent him into an even worse depression. It was really difficult. ”
But Lloyd didn’t take his medication very often because he didn’t think there was anything wrong with him, his mother added.
Then, in June 2015, the child actor was arrested after leading police on a multi-county chase before crashing his car. Lloyd spent 10 months in prison for the incident and subsequently sought psychiatric help.
A child actor who also appeared in the 1996 comedy, jingle foreverand the 2001 film, madisonis now reportedly taking medication on a regular basis, and Lisa said he is starting to act like “old Jake” again.
Mr Lloyd’s mother also insisted that her son was now in “much better condition”.
“We all love Jake and want to be around him,” she said. “I just want him to be happy.”
