It may sound conceited to offer more than six months of free gas, and it probably is.
Dawn Thompson, 45, was charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking of more than $5,000 for allegedly participating in a fuel scam that gave her more than $27,000 worth of free gas, ABC8 KLKN News report. According to ABC8, a police investigation revealed that customers can receive all the free gas they need by simply swiping their loyalty card twice and putting a “demo mode” on the pump. (Related: Home for Labor Day? Be careful where you fuel up, Secret Service warns)
According to ABC8, Thompson’s alleged repeated use of the card was brought to the attention of a loss prevention manager at Bosselman Enterprises. Police quickly tracked Thompson down, and surveillance footage showed her frequently stealing, the newspaper said.
Lincoln police discovered that Thompson’s loyalty card was allegedly used 510 times, often multiple times a day, between approximately November 13, 2022 and June 1, 2023. . The Sun reported. According to ABC8, Thompson allegedly shared his loyalty card with another woman and charged her about $500 for $700 worth of “free” gas.
According to 10/11 News, Thompson was arrested on March 6 and arraigned on March 7, concluding an investigation that began in October 2023.A phone message was left with her attorney Tuesday, The Associated Press report.
