A convicted pedophile in Florida has been rearrested less than two months after his release for allegedly raping a random woman.
Kendrick Marklein, 31, registered as a sex offender with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on January 8 after being released from prison on December 31, Fox News reported. report. The woman then accused the Panoma Park man of attacking her on February 3rd.
The woman told police that she was drunk that night, got into an argument with her family, and decided to leave her home and go for a walk alone. She reported that she noticed an unknown man following her and called her mother around 10:12 p.m., but she could not get through.
“The victim stated that the man continued to follow her and contacted her near the Dollar General to request cigarettes,” the sheriff’s office said. “The victim gave the man a cigarette and divided it between the two.”
The woman said the man grabbed her by the neck, slammed her head against a wall and raped her before leaving.
The victim said the man then tried to take her to his home, but that’s when her father came looking for her and she was able to flee to his father’s car.
Investigators were able to match surveillance footage and forensic evidence to Mark Lane on Monday, officials said.
He was arrested on a charge of sexual assault of a person over the age of 18 and is being held in the Putnam County Jail without bail.
Marklein was recently released from prison on charges of sexual assault of a child under 12, Fox News reported.
“This individual had multiple opportunities for rehabilitation and chose not to,” said Sheriff HD DeLoach. “He did not comply with the sex offender designation and returned to prison multiple times.”
“Clearly this person is unable to function in society and members of our community have suffered unforgivable and horrific trauma at his hands. There’s no reason to.”
