Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is pushing for a delay in the start of former President Trump’s hush money criminal trial in New York.

In a court filing Thursday, the prosecutor’s office said it was not opposed to delaying the start of the trial for up to 30 days to give Trump’s legal team time to consider recently submitted evidence.

Trump’s lawyers are seeking a 90-day delay or the charges against him be dropped, alleging he violated the “discovery process” in which both sides exchange evidence.

President Trump seems to suggest Florida Judge Cannon is unlikely to be fired.

The new records were provided by the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan, which previously investigated the hush-money arrangement at the center of Trump’s New York criminal case.

Trump’s lawyers are also asking for the trial to be delayed until the Supreme Court rules on Trump’s request for presidential immunity. Oral arguments in the case are scheduled to begin in late April.

The judge in the hush money case, Juan Manual Marchan, has not yet ruled on either claim. Jury selection in the trial is scheduled to begin on March 25th.

Trump’s lawyers have received at least 84,000 pages of records from the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office since March 4, including 31,000 pages compiled on Wednesday, according to court filings. Records are also included.

The records concern a federal investigation that touched on hush money issues and led to a prison sentence for President Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.

Federal prosecutors indicted Cohen in 2018 on campaign finance violations related to hush-money payments, tax evasion related to investments in the taxi industry, and lying to Congress.

Cohen blamed President Trump for his legal troubles, pleaded guilty and served about a year in prison, before being released on home confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic.
