New RNC chair says party has to influence early voters ‘to the degree that we can’

The new chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) said Friday that the Republican Party needs to communicate with voters who cast their ballots before Election Day, despite former President Trump’s disdain for mail-in voting. .

Michael Whatley, who was elected as the new RNC chairman last week, said, “Every state has different rules, but people with a large warrant are able to vote by mail, vote early in person, or vote on Election Day.” You can vote,” he said. he said on FOX News.

“We want to make sure people can plan how they’re going to go out and vote. More than 50 percent of American voters plan to vote by Election Day,” he said. continued. “We need to communicate with them and make sure we are talking to them before we go to vote.”

Asked if that meant the party would directly encourage Republicans to vote early, Whatley demurred.

“People need to decide for themselves what is best for them to vote, whether it’s by mail, early, in person or on Election Day,” he said. “More and more voters, Republicans, independents, independents, and even Democrats, are voting before Election Day. You have to make sure you’re giving.”

In a letter sent to RNC members Thursday, Whatley said programs focused on early voting, legal ballot collection and mail-in programs will be “strengthened.” The party is also launching a “Grow the Vote” program aimed at reaching low-propensity voters.

Democrats have traditionally done a better job than Republicans in getting voters to bank their ballots through early in-person and mail-in voting before Election Day.

The party’s investments in mail-in voting and early voting are similar to those made by President Trump, who is certain to be the Republican nominee. It has been claimed for several years Mail-in voting is rife with fraud. He has suggested that the 2020 election was unreliable due to its widespread use during the coronavirus pandemic, and has continued to assert that mail-in voting is unreliable at recent rallies.

Whatley, who was elected chair by President Trump, told Fox News there will also be “a lot of different changes” in the way the party communicates with voters at its national convention in July.

“But really, we want to use this as a showcase to talk to voters in all 50 states and in every community,” he said.
