The search for two missing hikers in Washington state turned into a search after the men fell into Eagle Falls on Saturday but did not resurface, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

“SAR and divers continue to search for two missing persons in Eagle Falls, Index this morning. This has become a recovery operation,” the sheriff’s office posted on X (formerly Twitter) Sunday morning. .

Shortly after 12 p.m., the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported that the bodies of two men had been recovered. However, it is not yet known whether the bodies are those of the two missing hikers, as investigators will work with the coroner’s office to identify them.

The sheriff’s office posted on social media that it received a report of two men missing after falling into a waterfall around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Rescue teams searched the area for several hours but were unable to find the man, officials said.

The sheriff’s office told FOX 13 they were with two other people at the time of the fall.

Due to fast flowing rivers and cold water temperatures in Snohomish County, the Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to stay out of the water and avoid waterfalls.

The identity of the missing climber has not yet been revealed.
