North Carolina State Police say an 11-year-old boy shot and killed a man. attack a pregnant mother After breaking into a hotel room.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were dispatched to the Intown Suites Extended Stay in west Charlotte on Interstate 77 at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The man reportedly entered the room and attacked the 27-year-old mother, leaving her with scrapes and bruises.
Police say the boy witnessed his mother being attacked and shot the man.
The man and the pregnant woman were hospitalized.
Police said the woman knew the man and the incident was a domestic violence situation. They filed numerous charges against the man, including assault by strangulation, assault on an unborn child and false imprisonment.
Police have not charged the boy.
Charlotte is a large city in northern North Carolina with a population of over 874,000.
A similar incident occurred in February when a 14-year-old boy shot and killed a homeless man who was trying to break into his home in Texas, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the man was wearing gloves and carrying a backpack, indicating he was attempting to rob the victim.
The child was home alone as the father was at work. Police said the man fired five or six shots at the homeless man. Neighbors told KHOU-TV that they witnessed a man being shot by a child as he tried to open the door.
“I still can’t stop shaking,” Araceli Herrera said. “If my daughter was in that situation, she honestly would be glad her daughter was okay. And I don’t know what the other guy’s intentions were.”
Police said they received other reports of the same man kicking in doors and demanding money.
