Montgomery County police faced intense criticism for releasing Alfaro-Lopez in August 2023, even though ICE wanted him in custody. Darius Reeves, director of ERO’s Baltimore field office, expressed frustration with the situation.
“This is a perfect example of the level of crime…It’s a very tragic story when people are released back into the community and the jurisdiction shows no respect for those in custody,” Reeves said in a statement. Stated. statement To FOX 5 DC. “The county cannot continue to recycle gun-toting gang members, child molesters, rapists, and abettors of murder and cannot continue to allow that to happen. Please stop putting terrible criminals back into our communities, and I believe that disrespecting ice detainees is an obstruction of federal law enforcement.”
