California the police said It is said that an infant was left inside a moving truck, which accidentally ran over and killed a 2-year-old child.
Police said they were called to a fatal crash at the 76 Gas Station on West Street on Saturday.
The owner of a black Dodge truck left the truck on as he rushed into a store at the station, leaving a 3-year-old child in a child seat in the back of the vehicle. The child was able to crawl to the front of the truck and get into the driver’s seat.
Investigators said the truck overturned the 2-year-old, who was standing near his parents’ taco stand on the property of a gas station.
“The family transported the child to the hospital where he was ultimately pronounced dead,” said Woodland Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Richard Tolle.
The boy was identified as Airani Sanchez Martinez. The child’s parents, Rosa Martinez and Sandro Sanchez, told KCRA-TV About that tragedy.
“She was always happy, loved to dance and brought joy to her family,” her mother said.
They say they were opening a taco shop when they saw the truck backing up toward their daughter.
The child’s father said: “He drove off with the child inside. What happened is not right.” “We served justice. I lost my daughter because of someone else.”
Investigators said criminal negligence charges are being considered and everyone involved in the tragedy is cooperating with police.
Law professor Michael Vitiello told KCRA that prosecutions in such cases are unlikely.
“It’s a freak accident,” Vitiello said. “We don’t put people in jail for freak accidents. Yes, there are real harms, but that’s why the tort system compensates innocent victims. It doesn’t help the families who lost their loved ones.”
The police to review Surveillance video from the gas station was leaked as part of the investigation. The case will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
Another food truck owner set up shop at the scene of the tragedy and said he would donate all proceeds to help grieving families.
According to the parents, the child’s third birthday is only a month away. They were planning a birthday party for her, but now they have to remember her and plan her wake instead.
