A Manhattan school board district has approved a resolution that could result in transgender athletes not being allowed to participate in women’s sports.
Regional Education Council District 2, Manhattan’s largest school board district, approved a resolution 8-3 asking the city’s Department of Education to review policies that allow transgender athletes to participate in girls’ sports. The New York Post reported.
Resolution 248, which has faced strong criticism from community members, also calls for parental involvement in future decisions.
Additionally, advocates have called for clarification on how the decision to allow transgender athletes, who often have a physical advantage over other athletes, to participate in sports programs was made in the first place. I’m looking for it.

The paper said the overwhelming majority of school board districts voted in favor of the resolution, which is largely symbolic despite public outcry from critics. That’s what it means.
The passage followed a controversial meeting in midtown Manhattan, which was attended by actor Elliot Page, city council members and district parents.

Jared Danker, a DOE official and District 2 parent, said at the meeting that the resolution “marginalizes a group of students who need our affirmation and support,” the New York Post reported. It would be discriminatory.”
New York City Councilman Eric Bottcher similarly condemned the resolution, saying he and other councilors were “outraged” that the school board was “considering a resolution targeting transgender girls and sports.” “I am doing so,” he said.

“It is absolutely shocking that such a regressive and harmful resolution is being proposed in a school district in the middle of Manhattan,” he added.
Supporters of the resolution noted that it does not call for major policy changes and would provoke broader debate.
