Boston religious leaders call on ‘white churches’ to pay $15 billion in reparations to black residents for owning slaves

daily mail recently reported Religious leaders in Boston have called on “white churches” to pay millions of dollars in restitution to black communities across the city. This absurd proposal includes providing $15 billion in reparations to the white church for its historic role in the slave trade.

The event, held at Resurrection Lutheran Church, was sponsored by the Boston People’s Reparations Committee, which was responsible for the $15 billion request.

One of the speakers featured at the event was Pastor Kevin Peterson. Mr. Peterson reportedly wants to rename Faneuil Hall Market, named after wealthy merchant Peter Faneuil, who was a prominent slave trafficker in the 18th century.

“With hearts filled with faith and Christian love, we sincerely call on our white churches to join us and not be silent about this issue of racism and slavery, but to work for reparations.” said Peterson.

“We call on them to publicly atone for the sins of slavery with Christian love and to publicly commit to the process of reparations.”

“They intend to spread their vast wealth (tens of millions of dollars in some churches) into the black community.”

Mr. Peterson was just one of 16 clergy members who signed the letter, which was sent to churches that wanted the group to participate in paying reparations. The report said the letter details how the church could disburse funds, whether in cash or for affordable housing or the creation of a “Black Boston financial and economic institution.” He said that he was being treated as such.

WCVB report “Obviously, it’s unfathomable. It’s impossible to quantify what African Americans have experienced in this country,” said Edwin Sumpter, who is involved with the Boston People’s Reparations Commission.

“What we’re doing is mobilizing, talking and educating the community about Boston’s role in the transatlantic slave trade and the disparities within our community, and we’re committed to collecting stories to find solutions.” “I’m here,” Heather Cook said. , and is also a member of the Boston People’s Reparations Committee.

According to reports, the group has been advocating for cash compensation since 2018.

Peterson also singled out the Catholic Church, which was banned in Massachusetts until the state constitution was passed in 1780, saying, “Unfortunately, they are committed to maintaining institutionalized racism throughout the city. I supported it.”

“We look not only at the era of slavery, but also three centuries of institutionalized anti-Black racism, and the Catholic Church includes the churches we want to engage with.”
