actress Olivia Colman had some harsh words about the gender pay gap during a recent appearance on CNN on Saturday.
Coleman, who starred in the award-winning Netflix series “The Crown,” appeared on “The Amanpour Hour” to talk about his recent role in the film “Wicked Little Letters.” While she was discussing this film, she was asked if she had seen any evidence that women could now be considered “big box office draws.”
“I don’t want people to talk about the pay gap, but the reason male actors get paid more is because they often say they attract audiences,” Coleman said. “And the truth is, that hasn’t been true for decades, but they still like to use that as a reason to pay women less than men.”
“I’m very aware that if I were Oliver Coleman, I would be making a lot more money than I am now,” she said. “There’s one pay gap that I know of, and it’s 12,000 percent.”

The comment was similar to a similar statement by “The Color Purple” actress Taraji P. Henson. In December, she lamented that she not only struggles with the gender pay gap, but also with the racial pay gap.
“I got tired of working hard and being polite about what I was doing.” [and] “I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over again,” Henson said. It makes me tired. She hears people say, “You’re working hard.” Well, you have to. Mathematics is not mathematics. ”

Henson added, “Every time I do something and take a break, another glass ceiling, when the time comes to renegotiate, you’ll hit rock bottom again as if you’d never done it before, and you’ll be exhausted. I’m tired. It comes down to you. What does that mean? What does that say to me? If you can’t fight for those coming from behind, what the hell are you doing? ”
