Spring training won’t tell you much, but it will give you some hints. The star of the Mets’ Grapefruit League season last year was DJ Stewart, who was no exception and had a breakout season in August and September.
Or it could be misleading. Just ask Kyle Higashioka in 2022, who hit seven home runs in 11 spring games for the Yankees.
After four weeks of spring training games, there are hints, or maybe even mirages, in Mets camp. With one exhibition game remaining before the season begins Thursday against the Brewers at Citi Field, the Mets have a roster that does not include Mark Vientos or Choi Ji-man and includes utility man Zach Short. We have enough prospects to narrow it down.
And the Mets have probably seen enough to be worried or excited about various key members of their roster. We looked at his five stats that stood out from the Grapefruit League season. These numbers could be meaningless, or they could be important in a spring season where they mean very little.
