A South American woman was rushed to the hospital after a deadly object was found inside a bag containing pig skin.
According to Reuters, Peruvian Celia Tero, 68, was enjoying a snack in February when she felt something sharp hit her throat.
The woman soon became unwell and began vomiting blood. After she was taken to the emergency room, her doctors discovered that a nail had penetrated one of her carotid arteries, which supply oxygen and blood to her brain.
Tello thought the mysterious object was a bone, but it turned out to be something even more unusual: a nail.

“I had no idea there were these nails and wires,” Tero told Reuters in Spanish.
Surgeon Diego Cuipal explained that a “careful dissection” was carried out to safely remove the nail from her body. Despite the risk of “dislodging the blood clot that could reach the brain,” doctors performed the surgery successfully.
“We were able to isolate the diseased artery, cut it, repair it, and join the healthy artery with another healthy artery,” Cuipal said in Spanish.

Tero’s X-ray images showed a fingernail stuck in his throat. The woman had scars on her neck, but has since recovered.

Although it is rare for hazardous substances to enter food, similar incidents have occurred. In 2018, a Burger King customer found a claw inside his burger and accidentally ate it.

“It was crunchy and I threw up three times,” Anneke told FOX 8.
