Gov. Abbott celebrates success of Operation Lone Star, citing significant declines in illegal alien encounters

The Biden administration has worked hard to thwart Lone Star states’ efforts to fend off waves of foreigners. The Democratic administration has been fighting in court in recent weeks to block the implementation of Senate Bill 4, which would make it a misdemeanor to enter Texas illegally and allow state law enforcement to package up illegal aliens.

Fortunately, Texas has other arrows in its quiver, some of which appear to be diluting the wave of migrants encountered at the border.

Early Wednesday morning, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
highlighted Lately, there have been signs that “Operation Lone Star is underway.”

The governor cited a recent Media Research Center
report This represents a 28% decrease in encounters with illegal aliens at the border between October 2023 and last month, from 560,920 to 406,458.

The report referred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
dataThis represents significant declines in four of the Lone Star State’s five border patrol departments from the past five months to the same period in fiscal year 2023. El Paso saw a 46.8% decrease. Big Bend, down 65.1%. Laredo, down 38.1%. and the Rio Grande Valley, down 22.6%.

In the Del Rio sector, encounter rates were less pronounced, with a 5.7% year-over-year decrease. But those numbers are likely to improve since the state took control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. The Biden administration had previously failed to stop the large numbers of illegal immigrants sneaking into the country.

Texas has since installed razor wire, fencing and shoreline fencing in the area, and the number of trespasses decreased by 41.2% in January and 38.5% compared to the same month last year.

Meanwhile, sectors in Democratic-run states saw significant spikes. For example, in the San Diego division the encounter rate increased by 76.1%. In Tucson, Arizona, encounters with illegal aliens at the southern border jumped 167.2%.

I got it. Kari Lake, currently running for U.S. Senate from Arizona, has previously argued that the population boom along the Arizona border is due to successful border control efforts in Texas.

“Greg Abbott is now working on border security in Texas, so we’re seeing even more people coming across the border than we’ve had in months,” Lake said in January. “The Tucson area is filled with people from 168 countries.”

Mr. Abbott is clearly satisfied with the state of affairs, at least as it pertains to the well-being of the state and its residents.

“At the same time that Texas has seen a decline in illegal immigration, California and Arizona have seen a rapid increase in illegal immigration,” Abbott wrote. “It’s because of the border wall, the razor wire barrier, the National Guard and DPS arrests.”

Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety
launched Operation Lone Star will be implemented in March 2021. “Texas supports legal immigration, but we will not be complicit in open border policies that create, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans,” Abbott said at the time. We will increase the resources and law enforcement personnel needed to combat this crisis. ”
