Former ESPN host Sage Steele momentarily mistook UFC president Dana White for another “white bald guy” on his first day back in the spotlight.
Steele, who announced his departure from ESPN in August 2023, did so following a lawsuit alleging that Disney and ESPN retaliated against him for his public comments. Steele reportedly voiced her opinion on the COVID-19 vaccination mandate by Barack Obama and her employer.
“Now that the lawsuit with ESPN/Disney has been successfully resolved, I have decided to retire so that I can more freely exercise my First Amendment rights,” she announced on X at the time.
Steele has since returned with a new podcast. ”sage steele show” and promised featured guests, including fight promoter White, for the first episode.
After discussing mainstream media, energy drinks, cancel culture, and more, Steele and White brought up misidentification.
“What is Joe Rogan’s dream?” Steele asked.
“What is Joe Rogan’s dream?” a confused White replied.
“Joe Rogan…Dana White. What is Dana White’s dream?” Steele jokingly corrected.
“Did you think I was Joe Rogan?” White suddenly realized as he drank his energy drink.
“I totally did,” Steele confessed.
“Did you just call me fucking Joe Rogan?! You thought I was fucking Joe Rogan?!” White continued, feigning exasperation. “I was bald before Joe was bald!”
In an attempt to explain his mistake, Steele said that he confused Logan and White because they were “literally the only two people I could respect.”
Afterwards, the two swapped stories of mistaken identity, with White saying that he was often confused with Logan when fans approached him for photos.
“Do you want to fix it?” Steele asked.
“No, I just let them go show everyone a picture of Joe Rogan…I just did a two-hour fucking podcast that flew in from here to here [Las] Vegas and she thought she was interviewing Joe Rogan! ” White jokingly declared.
White explained that he was even confused with comedian Howie Mandel. The pair recently had their own viral moment when White. walked away Mandel’s set of podcasts will play in just 30 seconds.
“It makes sense because all of us white bald guys look alike,” White explained wryly.
“I mean, listen, I know they call me Candace Owens these days,” Sage pointed out. She further added that she also tends to be confused by “black conservative girls” by fans.
Steele’s new podcast may come as a surprise to some viewers, as it is hosted by the Club Random Network, which is owned by comedian and fellow podcast host Bill Maher.
