The family of 83-year-old Lydia Sanchez is demanding that car robbery suspects be brought to justice after their great-grandmother’s death. suffered a brutal assault On my way home from a grocery store outside of Houston, Texas.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Sanchez was leaving La Michoacana in the Aldin neighborhood when he was attacked at 8 a.m.
His son, Lee Sanchez, said he resisted a suspect who tried to steal his car.
“Eventually, she ended up biting him, but my mother held onto him tightly,” he told KTRK-TV.
The alleged assailant ripped her from the car and threw her to the ground. He then drove off in her car, taking her purse and a large amount of cash.
Sanchez was hospitalized but later released. Her knee is extremely swollen, her lip is split, and her ribcage hurts from her argument.
Video surveillance later captured the suspect at the shopping center. He parked his car behind Manny’s Mexican Grill and Seafood Restaurant and pulled the door handle of his truck inside the restaurant. Unable to get inside, he left with his bag and drove off in his car.
The family was able to recover the car, but Sanchez is still recovering from his injuries. Her family says she uses her car to go to dialysis three times a week.
“We have to focus on her healing,” her son told KTRK.
Her family is grateful that she was not injured more seriously, but they want her perpetrators to be brought to justice.
“She’s grocery shopping. She’s 83 years old. Why?” her daughter Evelyn Garza asked. “Attacking an elderly person? Yes, I want you to catch me!”
Her family had to change the lock on her door because her keys were stolen. Sanchez has nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. They ask anyone with information to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
“If anyone has information, please call police,” Garza said. “I mean, get these animals off the streets!”
