Tensions from Friday’s Mets-Brewers matinee carried over into Saturday, resulting in an ejection.

On Friday, the benches were empty but no punches were thrown after Milwaukee’s Reece Hoskins slid hard into second baseman Jeff McNeil. McNeil took exception. The court ruled that the slide was legal.

As expected, the Citi Field crowd booed Hoskins all day Saturday, but he didn’t care one bit. He hit a two-run hit on the first pitch he saw. Two innings later, he hit a two-run home run.

After adding a single, Hoskins came up to bat to face Johan Ramirez in the top of the seventh inning, and Ramirez’s first pitch was a 94 mph fastball behind Hoskins.

When several players jumped over the dugout railing, the referees were briefly called in, during which Hoskins told someone, “That’s weird.”

Mets announcer Ron Darling also criticized the pitching, saying, “The message was delayed by about two hours.”

After Hoskins’ slip on Friday, McNeil listened to him. The umpire stepped between McNeil and Hoskins, but McNeil was slow to get to his feet and trotted back to the dugout, eventually returning to the infield.

The camera panned to the Brewers’ dugout and players stormed onto the field. Mets players also joined in.

McNeil was hot, and the cameras showed Hoskins giving the infielder a sarcastic look.

Hoskins is in his first season with the Brewers, but there’s no love lost between him and the Mets. He was a thorn in the side of the Mets while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.

In 2019, he hit a home run against New York and took 34 seconds to trot around the bases. Hoskins was also upset about a pitch that went over Jacob Rehm’s head.
