Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Times Square earlier in the day for “Palestinian Land Day” and will protest Saturday night at the Easter Vigil at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. went.

Protesters were removed from the service shortly after, as many in attendance did not approve of the riot.

The Mass was led by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York.

On Saturday, millions of people gathered around the world to protest the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza.

In a statement ahead of the start of Holy Week, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) called for prayers for peace in the Middle East and an end to the Israeli-Hamas war.

“As the Church enters Holy Week, and the suffering and resurrection of Christ on the cross are vividly revealed to us, we are connecting with the very source of hope,” the statement said.

Since the beginning of the war in Israel, the USCCB has consistently called for peace, prayer, fasting, and the release of hostages held by Hamas. The conference also condemned the deaths of civilians.

“Thousands of innocent people have died in this conflict, and thousands more have been displaced and are facing enormous suffering,” the bishops said. “This has to stop.”
