Biden calls Florida court ruling on abortion ‘outrageous’

President Biden condemned an “extreme” Florida Supreme Court decision that upheld the state’s 15-week abortion ban and instituted an even stricter policy.

“Yesterday’s extreme decision will further push desperately needed health care out of reach for millions of women in Florida and across the South,” Biden said in a statement Tuesday.

“The court not only upheld Florida’s current ban on women making their own reproductive choices, but also Governor DeSantis’ even more extreme ban on women from receiving care before they know they are pregnant. “There is a high possibility that the government will invoke new laws,” he continued. “That’s outrageous.”

Biden said Florida’s restrictions on abortion access, like those passed in other states, “take away women’s freedom to make their own health care decisions and require physicians to only provide trained medical care.” “It threatens people with prison terms.”

The president noted that the court’s ruling authorizes a ballot measure that would protect access to abortion if voters pass it in November, giving Floridians an opportunity to speak out on the issue.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting reproductive freedom in Florida and across the country, and we will continue to urge Congress to pass legislation that restores protections for women.” Roe vs. Wade In every state,” Biden said.

The Florida court’s decision, handed down Monday, is the latest shockwave in the fight over abortion access, following the June 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade.

The decision means a separate six-week ban will come into force on May 1, banning abortions before most women realize they are pregnant. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a six-week stay-at-home order last year, just before announcing his presidential bid.

Even with the 15-week ban, Florida remains a haven for women seeking abortions from other states with stricter laws. So the policy change will have an impact on the Southeast and other regions as the influx of patients strains abortion services. Abortion clinics in the state. Virginia is currently the only state in the South that allows abortions beyond the first trimester.

Abortion has been a major motivator for Democratic voters for nearly two years, ever since a Supreme Court ruling overturned the federal right to abortion, and Biden and his team are looking forward to a November general election showdown with former President Trump. They have used abortion as a rallying force to achieve this goal.

Biden campaign announced new ad On Tuesday after the Sunshine State decision, Trump focused in particular on comments he made crediting him with appointing three conservative Supreme Court justices to end Roe v. Wade.

“Donald Trump doesn’t trust women. ‘I do,'” Biden says in the ad. The ads will air on national cable, local and cable television in battleground states and during shows such as “Saturday Night Live,” “The Voice” and “American Idol.”
