A Georgia judge has rejected former President Donald Trump’s motion to dismiss a 2020 election interference indictment, citing First Amendment protections.
“After extensive conferences, attorney arguments, and consideration of the indictment, the court finds that these vital constitutional protections do not extend to acts and statements asserted by the state. “It’s not even a superficial violation of the First Amendment,” said Fulton County’s senior commissioner. Judge Scott McAfee issued the ruling Thursday.

“They argue that the charges violate First Amendment protections for political speech and activity, freedom of association, and the right to petition Congress to address their alleged conduct. , further contends that the charges charged are too broad,” he said.
