CNN guest fact-checks Wolf Blitzer in real time for pushing Biden narrative about Trump’s words: ‘I listened to the tape’

Republican Scott Jennings on Wednesday criticized CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer for taking Donald Trump’s comments about immigration out of context.

On Tuesday, the Biden campaign posted a seven-second clip of Trump’s remarks while in Michigan, misrepresenting Trump’s remarks by cutting the comments out of context. The campaign gave the impression that President Trump was calling all immigrants “animals.”

Blitzer then brought up the Biden campaign’s claims about the remarks, asking Jennings whether Americans have become “desensitized” to President Trump’s “cruel and inflammatory rhetoric” about immigrants.

“Isn’t that brutal? Shouldn’t people condemn it?” Blitzer asked.

Jennings not only answered the question, but also told Blitzer that he was misrepresenting what Trump had said.

“I listened to the entire tape, and he specifically talked about the person who killed Laken Riley in Georgia,” Jennings noted.

“And to be honest, Wolf, if someone kills a person, I think that person deserves to be called an ‘animal.’ And I don’t think there are any Americans who would really reject that kind of rhetoric.” ” he added. “That poor girl was murdered in cold blood. Wasn’t the person who did it an animal? I think that’s an appropriate word.”

But for some reason, Blitzer couldn’t wrap his head around the idea that President Trump wasn’t condemning all immigrants.

“I assume he’s only referring to the murderer and not illegal immigrants entering the United States in general?” the CNN anchor followed up.

“I listened to the tape, and that’s exactly what he was talking about,” Jennings admitted.

Indeed, Trump was referring to the Venezuelan immigrant accused of killing Laken Riley. Not all immigrants.

But Blitzer didn’t know that, and neither did CNN viewers. That’s because CNN producers had spliced together several cuts of Trump’s remarks to misrepresent what he said.

Here’s what Trump said:

A 22-year-old nursing student was brutally murdered by an illegal exotic animal in Georgia. Democrats say, “Don’t call them animals. They’re people.” I said, “No, they’re not human.” they are not human. they are animals. Nancy Pelosi said to me, “Don’t use the word ‘animal’ when you talk about these people.” I said, “I use the word ‘animal’ because that’s what animals are.”
