Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that President Joe Biden’s strategy toward Israel is not working.
Co-host Joe Scarborough said, “If the president attacks Netanyahu aggressively, if the president says we’re going to stop sending weapons, then Netanyahu will actually use that to push for more inside Israel.” They’re going to get a lot of power and say, look, we’ve been abandoned.” With America, we must keep fighting. ”
Psaki said, “That’s true. I think that’s also important. The strategy that the United States is implementing right now isn’t working to change Prime Minister Netanyahu’s behavior, and it’s not working to end the war.” It’s clear that we haven’t. So clearly something needs to change.”
she continued. “And I think it’s very clear, they’re thinking, and I hope that in the White House, in this situation, or at this point in time, but the question is, how does that go? We’re discussing that.”
Psaki added: “There are a number of President Biden allies and Democratic senators in the Senate who have been pretty outspoken about the need for conditional support, at least as a consideration.” That is clearly something that is being considered and should be considered. The question is: Will that change behavior, and what additional influence does Prime Minister Netanyahu need to have at this point to change the trajectory? ”
