Portland mayor supports rolling back the city’s restrictions on homeless camping

In a shift in policy regarding homeless encampments in Portland, Oregon, Mayor Ted Wheeler on Thursday proposed new regulations that would repeal the city’s ban on “homeless daytime encampments,” according to local reports.

Wheeler’s proposal would reduce “criminal sanctions” against the camp. According to KOIN6.

“The City Attorney’s Office believes these new proposed regulations will survive legal challenges and provide the city with the means to change the status quo in Portland,” City Attorney Robert Taylor said in a press statement.
