Radical environmental activist Greta Thunberg was arrested by police in The Hague on Saturday during an Extinction Liberal protest against inaction on the so-called “climate crisis.”
Thunberg, 21, was one of the first to be arrested when Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists blocked the South-Hollandlaan road in the center of The Hague.
A prominent youth activist said the arrest was carried out without incident, adding: according to “But that’s not the issue, I’m here for the climate goal,” he told Dutch public broadcaster NOS.
“Action has been promised for decades. That’s not going to happen. Let’s see now if it works.”

Extinction Rebellion, an international activist group known for using destructive tactics such as staking out roads in Europe’s major city centres, has taken action over claims the country’s progressive climate change policies are not going far enough. have been protesting against the neoliberal Dutch government for several months. It also calls for an end to fossil fuel subsidies.
Thunberg, who gained international attention in 2018 after skipping school to hold weekly protests outside the Swedish parliament, has been arrested multiple times for protesting against climate change.

Last year, the environmental activist was arrested outside an oil and gas conference in London. In February, a British judge ruled that she had not broken the law by ignoring police orders to stop blocking the entrance to the conference.
Thunberg has also been fined multiple times in her native Sweden for obstructing traffic.
