The idea was that Scott would pretend to rob two victims and then apply for U visas. “U Nonimmigrant Status” is reserved for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and is helpful to law enforcement and government officials in investigating and prosecuting criminal activity.
Police said Scott and Winfrey had committed similar robberies dating back to 2023, with the most recent one the night before Scott was killed.

On Jan. 27, Scott pretended to rob two people at a Swift gas station in the 4400 block of Lockwood Drive. At that time, a bystander who identified himself as Jesus Vargas allegedly shot and killed Scott. Vargas told police he fled the scene because he violated his parole for possessing a gun, according to court documents.
Scott’s widow’s fiancée, Said Beverly, told FOX 26 that while she didn’t condone Scott’s activities, the “real problem” was lax gun laws.
“They need to change,” Beverley told the outlet. “I don’t understand how people can say it’s OK to take someone’s life. It’s never OK.”
