A man believed to be involved in the murder of a University of Washington student on Sunday night has turned himself in to the police this past Wednesday evening.
This decision came after the Seattle Police Department released a photo of the suspect earlier that day, asking the community for assistance in locating him.
According to a statement from the SPD, a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with a homicide linked to the tragic death of a 19-year-old victim, found with stab wounds on May 10 in a residential building on the university campus.
The suspect is noted to be a former University of Washington student, attending from 2015 to 2021. He presented himself anonymously to the Bellevue police, who then transferred him into the custody of Seattle homicide detectives.
For three days, authorities had been actively searching for leads following a disturbing stabbing incident that took place in a laundry room of a Nordheim Court apartment complex late on Sunday. While these residences are privately run and situated off-campus, they are still considered undergraduate housing by the university.
Descriptions of the suspect indicate he is a Black male, around 5 feet 7 inches tall, slim, and has light skin. The released photo shows him wearing thin wire-frame glasses, a scruffy goatee, and a navy blue pullover with jeans.
Notably, there was a video capturing the suspect, which showed him glancing over his shoulder at what appeared to be a surveillance camera.
Upon arrival, the University of Washington police attempted life-saving measures, alongside the Seattle Fire Department’s efforts, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
The victim, who has not been publicly named, is reported to be transgender. This detail adds another layer of complexity to an already tragic incident.
University of Washington President Robert Jones expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, acknowledging the profound sense of loss felt throughout the community. He emphasized that violence against transgender individuals is particularly troubling for the LGBTQIA+ community, stating, “There are no words that can express the students’ deep sense of loss…”
Fox News Digital has contacted the Seattle Police Department for further information.
