A Pennsylvania man is facing charges after police found his mother covered in dried feces and maggots and “fused” to a dirty bed in a dilapidated home.
Daniel Klein, 51, was arrested and charged Sunday after Upper Chichester County Police responded to a residence on Dresner Circle in Upper Chichester for a welfare check, police said in a press release. That’s what it means. Police were called to the home after a concerned neighbor noticed a pile of belongings on the front porch and no answer to knocks on the front and back doors.
When officers arrived at the home, they found a pile of packages and several white plastic bags containing unopened food on the doorstep. They checked the rear sliding glass door and observed a large amount of trash on the floor. Officers also noticed several files on the property when searching the back of the house.
Concerned that the person inside was either dead or experiencing a medical emergency, officers forced their way into the home, where they encountered Klein.

Officers observed a large amount of trash and packages inside the front door and throughout the entrance to the home, making it difficult to fully open the front door.
A strange odor was also detected inside the house.
Klein was asked to make sure her mother was okay and to accompany the officer to check on her. He said her mother was asleep and led officers to her master bedroom.
Officers entered the bedroom and observed Klein’s mother lying in bed, unconscious and breathing with a dirty blanket over her.

Officers then called a doctor to the home, where they removed the blankets and found the woman covered in dried feces and maggots. It turns out she also has her sheep’s horn toenails.
When doctors removed the woman from her bed, they discovered that she was “adhered” to the bed sheets. She was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
Klein was arrested and charged with child abuse and endangering others. He is unable to post bail of $50,000 and is being held at George Hill Correctional Facility.
