Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to visit Arizona on Friday afternoon and tell a dark story about President Trump’s chances for a second term.
Harris will hold a campaign event in Tuscon just days after the state Supreme Court upheld an 1864 law that criminalized abortion, with exceptions for rape and incest. In prepared remarks, Harris accused former President Trump of enabling that decision in 2022 by appointing U.S. Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade and ended federal protections for abortion. .
“Here in Arizona, we have turned back the clock on women’s rights and liberties for more than a century. Roe’s overturn was a seismic event, and this ban in Arizona is the largest ever. “It’s one of the aftershocks,” Harris said. Excerpt released by the Biden campaign.
She will call President Trump “the architect of this health care crisis” and argue that a second term for Trump will mean “more bans, more suffering, less freedom.”

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) has called on the state Legislature to quickly repeal the law, and the state’s Democratic attorney general has said he has no intention of enforcing the abortion ban.
Harris’ prepared remarks reflect Democrats’ 2024 strategy to fully address abortion in the wake of Roe’s demise.

The Biden campaign this week announced a seven-figure ad buy targeting Arizona voters, focusing on abortion rights. A new ad called “Power Back” will air on television stations in Arizona and will hold President Trump responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade and moving forward with Arizona’s abortion ban.
