CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger said Friday on CNN’s “The Read” that comments from former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party could lead to violence.
Anchor Jake Tapper said, “How worried is it that if Trump loses again in November, who knows what will happen? But if Trump loses, there will be a repeat of January 6th. “How worried are you about being seen?” he asked.
Kinzinger said: The advantage now is that Trump doesn’t have the means of power, but he does have the crowds to rally around. ”
He continued, “All that is needed for democracy to survive, for any form of self-government to survive, is a basic agreement among the American people to vote, in which whoever gets the most votes wins, and a certain That’s it. That’s all you have to agree to. What Donald Trump and frankly what the Republicans have done now is invalidate even basic agreements with self-governing governments. And that’s a real danger, especially in a country that prides itself on being founded on revolution. We don’t have taxation without representation. I believed it didn’t exist.”
Kinzinger added: “And now Republicans are playing with fire by convincing their base that their voices aren’t actually being heard. I have to say that it would be violent to do so. There is no other outcome. That would be terrifying to me, and it should be terrifying to every American.”
