The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said last week that there is “no evidence” that coronavirus vaccines can cause sudden cardiac death or other heart conditions in young people.

On Thursday, the CDC released a report showing there is no evidence that coronavirus vaccines cause fatal cardiac arrest or other deadly heart conditions in teens and young adults.

of studyReleased on April 11ththexamined nearly 1,300 death certificates of people in Oregon between the ages of 16 and 30 who died suddenly of heart attacks between June 1st.cent2021, and December 31st.centThese offspring included 925 (72%) males and 367 (28%) females.

The authors’ study looked at people who died within 100 days of receiving the Moderna or Pfizer coronavirus vaccines. 40 deaths occurred during that period.

Two of the 40 deaths were determined to be due to an “underlying disease,” and the third death was listed as having an “undetermined cause of death.” None of the death certificates listed vaccination as a cause of death.

Additionally, 30 Oregon residents in that age group died during that time period due to COVID-19. Nevertheless, the majority of these residents were not vaccinated.

“The data do not support an association between COVID-19 vaccination and sudden cardiac death in previously healthy young people,” the CDC said in a report.

Dr. Paul Cieslak, co-author of the CDC report, explained: NBC News The analysis was initiated after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest on Monday Night Football in January 2023 led to concerning statements about the coronavirus vaccine, officials said. The 26-year-old player recovered after being resuscitated on the field.

“When Damar Hamlin collapsed, we immediately received comments that it could be vaccine-related,” Cieslak, medical director of infectious diseases and immunizations for the Oregon Health Authority’s Division of Public Health, told the publication. . “This is kind of what we were trying to address with this analysis.”

Dr. Ofer Levy, director of the Precision Vaccines Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, added: “There has never been a definitive vaccine associated with sudden cardiac death.”

He said there is a small risk of developing myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart, after receiving the coronavirus vaccine, but most people will fully recover within a few days.

“This adds to the evidence that people don’t die when they take the mRNA Covid vaccine,” Levy explained.
