UN Secretary-General calls for de-escalation of tensions
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on member states not to further escalate tensions by retaliating against Iran.
According to Reuters, Guterres was speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council convened in response to Iran’s attack on Israel.
Iran launched explosive drones and missiles on Saturday in its first direct attack on Israeli territory.
The attack was carried out in response to an alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria on April 1. The attack killed a top Revolutionary Guards commander and followed months of conflict between Israel and Iran’s regional allies, sparked by the Gaza war.
