Syracuse cop and Onondaga sheriff’s deputy shot and killed in Salina

A Syracuse police officer and a sheriff’s deputy were shot and killed in an upstate New York community Sunday night, according to reports.

The double shooting occurred between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. in a residential area in the Syracuse suburb of Salina. Syracuse.com reported.

A Syracuse Police Department officer and an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy were struck by gunfire, a Syracuse Police Department spokesperson told The Post Sunday night.

Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelley said at a press conference shortly after 11 p.m. that a suspect was in custody, according to local newspaper reports.

Law enforcement officers were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle before arriving at the home where the shooting occurred. WSYR reported.

Sherry said a person inside the home was also injured. It is unclear whether the person was involved in the shooting or was a bystander.

More than a dozen police cars were parked outside Upstate Hospital, and more law enforcement officers were waiting near the emergency room door, Syracuse.com reported.

There is no threat to the community, Shelley added.
