Prince Harry loses initial attempt to appeal against security ruling | Prince Harry

The Duke of Sussex has lost his first attempt to appeal a High Court ruling over the level of personal safety he should be given when visiting the UK.

Prince Harry has filed a complaint with the Home Office over a February 2020 decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royals and Public Figures (Labecq) that he should receive different degrees of taxpayer-funded protection while in the country. filed a lawsuit against.

Labecque’s decision was taken as a result of a change in the duke’s “status” as he was no longer a “full-time working member of the royal family”, the judge said.

In a February judgment, former High Court judge Sir Peter Lane dismissed the duke’s case, concluding that Labecque’s approach was neither unreasonable nor procedurally unfair.

After the verdict, a spokesperson for the duke said he intended to appeal the verdict, adding that Prince Harry “hopes to get justice in the Court of Appeal.”

On Wednesday, a judicial spokesperson announced that Prince Harry had lost his first attempt to appeal the decision. However, the duke can seek the go-ahead directly to the Court of Appeal to challenge Lane’s decision.
