The mayor of Atlantic City and his wife have been charged with abuse after allegedly beating their teenage daughter unconscious with a broom, according to reports.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Monday that Mayor Marty Small Sr., 50, and his wife, La Quetta, 47, have been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Marty Small is also charged with third-degree terroristic threats and third-degree aggravated assault. The two men are also charged with simple assault by a person who disrupts the peace.
LaQuetta Small is the superintendent of Atlantic City Public Schools.
The girl, whose name has not been released, was allegedly abused multiple times between December 2023 and January 2024, when she was 15 and 16 years old.

In another incident, a 50-year-old mayor “slammed” his daughter down the stairs to the ground during an argument with her, grabbed her by the head, threw her to the ground, and knocked her knitting off her head. He threatened to hurt me. added an investigator.
Authorities also revealed that Marty Small repeatedly punched his daughter’s leg, causing bruises. La Quetta Small is accused of punching her daughter in the chest multiple times, leaving her black.
In another incident, the superintendent dragged her daughter by her hair and hit her with a shoulder belt, leaving marks, investigators said. She also allegedly punched her daughter in the mouth during another argument.
An Atlantic City spokesperson also declined comment Monday, directing all questions to the mayor’s attorney.
The newspaper did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The mayor’s home was searched on March 28, and on April 1, his wife and daughter attended a press conference in Atlantic City, where the mayor said he had “nothing to hide.”
