Comer, Raskin get into shouting match: ‘Somebody needs therapy here’

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) engaged in a heated exchange of insults during a Congressional hearing Wednesday.

The two top members of the House Oversight Committee yelled at each other for more than five minutes during a hearing on the Chinese Communist Party on Wednesday. The two men posed questions to each other in an exchange that focused largely on the House Republican impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

“So somebody here needs therapy, and there’s no one on our side of the aisle,” Comer said after asking Raskin what business the Biden family was involved in. , Ruskin said at one point.

Comer responded by slamming his gavel and asking lawmakers to return to the intended topic of the hearing. Mr. Raskin continued to speak on his behalf, accusing the committee chair of interfering with his allotted time and demanding that Mr. Comer return his question time.

“Sit down, everyone come back. This is a story about China. I just asked a simple question. Mr. Presley, I’m not feeling well, please sit down!” Comer said as he continued to bang his gavel.

As the committee continued its hearing, Comer asked the record to show that “Mr. Raskins was unable to answer questions.”

“Let’s start with this. My last name is Ruskin, okay? “We’ve been sitting next to each other for over a year, no need to add an S. Second, I want my time back. ” replied Ruskin.

“Third, not a single crime has been identified. But what crime do you want to impeach Joe Biden and let this nonsense continue? Why? Huh, what crime? America right now. Please tell me!” he continued.

Comer responded, “We’ll see,” and the panel moved on.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) also weighed in on the heated debate.

“Tears come to my eyes as I sit in the observation room. Comer is losing the shit!” she wrote in Social media platform X.

Mr. Comer and Mr. Raskin have been at odds as chairman and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, which is investigating Mr. Biden and his family. Comer described their relationship as “toxic” earlier this year, while Raskin said “its nature is.” [Republicans are] What stands for now is corrupt and dangerous. ”

The Hill has reached out to Comer and Raskin’s offices for comment.
